How These Rankings Work

Best Football ranks programs within each state classification by an enrollment-relative Competitive Index. The index is recalculated after removing obvious non-varsity records such as alternative, correctional, hospital, and severe enrollment outlier schools.

These pages are not win-loss polls or championship predictions. They show which listed football programs are largest relative to their classification peers, with travel burden shown separately where available.
